Serve for 15 hours

There are many different teams you can serve on for up to 15 hours a month. Have a read below to learn about all our different projects and how you can get involved!

We understand everyone has different availability and capacity for serving so whatever time you can give to serve, whether a little or a lot, will be so appreciated!

  • The Flourish Project exists to equip young people to develop healthy self-esteem along with mental and emotional wellbeing. Flourish runs as an eight week programme with one hour sessions a week in many primary and secondary schools.

15 hours of serving could look like:

    • 15 hours of presenting Flourish within schools

    • Help tidy or organise resources for an upcoming session

    • Share the project online to raise awareness and invite others to get involved

    • Offer to help a team member with a small admin or creative task

  • Aberdeen North Foodbank works to eradicate food poverty and support those in crisis in our local area. We run foodbank sessions at different locations and times throughout the week.

15 hours of serving could look like:

    • This would involve coming to set up and then once the Centre opens making and giving out food parcels, hot drinks and speaking with guests.

    • We also have a warehouse team that has ad-hoc evening and afternoon sessions, based at King's Church in the Bridge building. This involves weighing, categorising, dating and organising food donations.

    • There are also opportunities to serve at our supermarket collection days or in the day to day administration.

  • The Coffee Bar is our community café located within the Bridge Centre, open three days a week. Volunteers are the backbone of our Coffee Shop which is open Wednesday, Thursday and Friday between 10.00 am and 2.30 pm.

15 hours of serving could look like:

    • Our volunteers set up the tables and chairs/outside seating, take orders, serve food, clear and clean tables and clean down to a high standard at the end of each day.

    • There is also an opportunity on Tuesday afternoons to help prepare and bake for the Coffee Shop for the week and also cook 50 meals for VicTorry children’s club.

  • Soaring Seniors is our weekly community group held at the Bridge Centre on Wednesday mornings. It’s the perfect place for our guests to build community and make new friends. They enjoy having a blether together and taking part in activities such as singing, dancing and gardening.

15 hours of serving could look like:

    • Volunteering at the group from 9.45am-1.30pm on Wednesdays

    • Serving hot drinks and food

    • Sharing your gifts of singing and dancing

    • Being an encourager to guests

  • Reconnect is a befriending project for Seniors to offer support in rebuilding confidence, community and enjoyment in their lives. This is done through pairing individuals with a volunteer to support them in their weekly activities.

15 hours of serving could look like:

    • Being paired with a Senior from the community and meeting with them either weekly or biweekly

    • Encouraging them to get reconnected back into community and helping them to set goals so they feel empowered to leave the house more

  • The Bridge Centre is home to many of our projects and runs as a community hub in the heart of Torry. The space is also utilised for being hired out for different events and meetings.

15 hours of serving could look like:

    • We would love to have a volunteer caretaker - someone who would be happy to open up the building for the day and carry out other general tasks for the Centre.

    • There’s also opportunities to serve in the Coffee Bar and at the Seniors group.

  • Offering care, support and advice, the King's Way Centre provides a 'drop in' service every Thursday from 12pm-2pm to welcome people in for a cup of tea, warm space and a chat. Food parcels, clothing and household items are also available.

15 hours of serving could look like:

    • Volunteers create a warm and welcoming environment for guests to come into, as well as chatting, signposting, making up food parcels and hosting the clothes bank.

    • We are looking to run different community groups within the centre at different times across the week, so more opportunities to volunteer will be available in the near future.

  • We offer opportunities to serve in the Staff Office and other locations helping us with admin duties.

15 hours of serving could look like:

    • Popping into the Office to help our team with any admin work that may arise.

    • Any tasks needing done in King’s Way Centre or Bridge Centre

    • Flyering in the local community
